Volunteers are essential to planning. Using volunteers can be both a blessing and a misery. One thing I have learned is that it is essential to being very specific in your needs and how to have them accomplished.  I have found that very few people have all the necessary skills, but they really have the heart.  A good rule of thumb is to write out your expectations and give them parameters in their work.  Believe me, the volunteer will appreciate your specific directions.  It is nothing worse than someone trying to mind read what you want.  If  you spend a little time upfront with the coaching, then your job in the long run will not be as hard.
