What exactly is a special event?  A special event can be anything that you plan whether it is a conference, a baby or wedding shower, a corporate event, a fundraiser or gala, a reunion, a party, or any type of gathering where people are in attendance.  It is a special event, especially to you.  It is usually a one-time event that is for a specific purpose.  It could be a groundbreaking, grand opening or other significant occasion. It may be created for other targeted purposes such as a jobs fair; awards banquet or logo contest, a museum opening or launch party. The difference from a program is that these are usually offered on a continuing basis, such as a lecture series, classes, training, summer reading club or story hour.
